Contests & E-newsletter

I send a periodic newsletter--only 3 to 4 issues a year, so no need to worry about a mailbox full of spam--keeping people up-to-date on what's going on with my work. And to make it worth my subscribers' time and effort, I run contests with prizes specially chosen to make booklovers happy.

Important note: Because my service provider is dedicated to preventing spam, you will receive an e-mail asking you to click on a link to confirm your subscription. If you don't do this, you won't be subscribed to the e-newsletter, nor entered in the contest, and the spam police will not let me remind you. Somehow, professional spammers do not seem to operate under these constraints. Sigh.

Back to the good stuff. All my subscribers are automatically entered in all my contests, for as long as they stay subscribed. There's no rule against repeat winners, so stick around and maybe you'll win something fabulous!

Current Contest

The prize for my current contest is an old favorite--get a character named after you! I'll be starting work on on the ninth Faye Longchamp mystery soon, and I'll be naming people left and right. Maybe one of those characters will have your name...but be aware that I don't promise that you'll be a nice person, nor that you'll even stay alive. I have "killed" a contest winner in the past. Well, I killed a couple of them, actually. Enter at your own risk...

"Delightfully erudite"

Kirkus Reviews

This contemporary mystery is drenched with Florida history and with gothic elements that should appeal to a broad range of readers.

Booklist, Barbara Bibel

"Evans's fifth series mystery…reveals her skill in handling the details of a crime story enhanced by historical facts and scientific discussions on the physical properties of water. Along with further insights into Faye's personal life, the reader ends up with a thoroughly good mystery."

Library Journal on Floodgates

…a charming mixture of history, mystery and romance.

Intriguing...Though Evans has been compared to Tony Hillerman, her sympathetic characters and fascinating archeological lore add up to a style all her own.

Publishers Weekly

Evans' second archeological mystery is every bit as good as her debut, Artifacts (2003)....Faye makes a compelling heroine, and she's supported by an interesting array of suspects....Transcripts of Dr. Martinez's interviews scattered throughout the narrative provide important clues for the discerning reader.

Publishers Weekly

…a tantalizing mystery.

Merry Band of Murderers

...A Merry Band of Murderers is a winner....Three [stories] are particularly noteworthy: Mary Anna Evans' Land of the Flowers, Jeffrey Deaver's The Fan, and Val McDermid's Long Black Veil.... A Merry Band of Murderers is an admirable anthology of short stories by a skilled company of mystery authors.
